SKILLS NEEDED:
Recent operational experience on the flight line with
large aircraft; L1011 experience highly desirable. Flight test experience,
aircraft avionics systems, instrumentation, and electrical modification
experience desirable. Must be able and willing to perform aircraft
maintenance activities at various heights from work platforms, in
confined spaces and in inclement weather. Must be willing to travel (including
internationally) for periods ranging from one week to one month
approximately 1-3 times per year. Must be willing to work overtime and
unique hours/schedules when required.
DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THE POSITION:
Report to the Manager, Off-Site Operations (Mojave) and work directly with other aircraft technicians,
contract technicians, and the aircraft operations engineer(s). Assist
in preparing the aircraft for Pegasus or other launch activities including
electrical modifications and Airborne Support Equipment Installations to
reconfigure the aircraft as required for mission unique configurations.
Support deployments for launch activities at various launch sites within
and outside the continental U.S., including "rocket watch" activities on
a 24-hour schedule when required. Perform routine L1011 maintenance
including servicing, engine runs, pre- and post-flight inspections,
non-routine repairs, avionics and systems testing and troubleshooting.
Must be willing to inspect the work of other technicians as required.
Maintain aircraft maintenance records in accordance with the aircraft
maintenance plan. Comply with FAA Airworthiness Directives,
manufacturer Service Bulletins, and other unique maintenance and inspection
requirements for the aircraft. Assist in coordinating maintenance
schedules and parts procurement as required. Assist in maintaining
aircraft facilities and ground support equipment as required.
Ideal candidate shall possess technical training equivalent to an
Associate Degree, plus a minimum of 5 years related experience as an
aircraft electrical/mechanical technician are required. FAA Airframe &
Powerplant (A&P) License required; Inspection Authorization (IA) highly
desirable.
